PROGRAM:
The digital divide impacts negatively York County residents and businesses every day. That’s why the York County Commissioners worked with the York County Economic Alliance to launch the YoCo Fiber BroadbandTaskForce, build a 16-mile fiber backbone pilot project in the last four months of 2020, and are currently implementing an ambitious plan for countywide broadband connectivity. From Rotarians Silas Chamberlin and Julie Wheeler, learn about the current state of broadband internet access in York County and the county’s strategy to address the digital divide to ensure a high quality of life and economic competitiveness for our county. They are scheduled to present the virtual program live.

Thursday, April 22 -InauguralNet-Walking Event 11:30am-12:30pm on Earth Day. The group will walk along the Heritage Rail Trail south to York College and back (2 miles round trip on a flat, paved trail). Along the way, Rotarian SilasChamberlin will explain several points of interest, such as new development projects adjacent to the trail, the infrastructure for the county’s broadband internet project, and future improvements to the Codorus Greenway.
Meet at the Lafayette Plaza parking lot at the corner of Pershing and Philadelphia
Walkers are asked to wear masks and social distance.
Guests are free to join us, and there is no limited to number of walkers.
Walkers are encouraged to stop at Central Market before or after the net-walk for lunch
NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS
Applications are now being accepted for “Non-Traditional Student“ scholarships. Applicant must be working towards an undergraduate degree. MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE NEWS - The RCY Board of Directors has approved, and our club is now offering, a Hybrid Membership. This membership has been successfully introduced in other service clubs. It expands growth in our service to community and removes barriers to membership increasingly told to us by professionals who are unable to commit fully as an active member but want to participate in Rotary.
• NEW MEMBERS only with virtual focus
• Commit to 50% attendance and committee service
• Pay $300 application fee, reduced quarterly dues (no meals), attend new member orientation, join a committee, engage with the Club.
• After 6 months of membership with mentor & monitoring, may change to Active (full) membership if they choose to.
